Thomas Nolan, a British father was arrested for attempted murder while on vacation, but his family has defended their innocence by saying he wasn’t even in the country at the time.
Thomas Nolan, 19, was detained after flying to Canada with his wife, Eileen Delaney, and one-year-old son.
Thomas Nolan Charged With Attempted Murder
Although Ms Delaney claimed that the family did not go on vacation to Canada until August, Toronto police charged him with allegedly crashing a car in June.
Eileen shared her husband’s ordeal on Facebook, claiming her husband’s innocence and blaming a sinister dope for the crime.
She wrote: ‘We arrived on vacation on August 1, 2023. Three days later, Thomas Nolan is beaten, arrested and charged with attempted murder in Canada.
‘He is accused of an incident that happened on June 27. Thomas was not in Canada at this time.’
The arrest came after an alleged incident near Scotiabank Arena, home of NBA team Toronto Raptors.
Investigation
Investigators said they were summoned after a physical fight that occurred at 11:30 p.m. local time on June 27 after a “collision with personal injury that failed to stay”.
“The suspect got into an old-fashioned black pickup truck and drove along the sidewalk,” police claimed in a press release at the time.
‘The suspect hit the victim in the back while walking on the sidewalk.’
Allegedly, in anger, the suspect turned the truck upside down and sprinted along the sidewalk and then fled the scene.
The injured, who was not life-threatening, was taken to the hospital.
Police identified the suspect as 1.80m tall, with short curly hair. He was driving a black 2002 Ford Explorer Sport Trac with Ontario license plate BV68520. Confirming the arrest , a Toronto Police Service spokesperson said: ‘He was arrested on August 3, 2023. Since it is before the courts, I cannot go into the details of the investigation.
‘You will need to contact the courts for any information regarding court information.’
Nolan’s wife suspects that he was mistakenly targeted because he is a member of the Irish travel community.
She said: ‘He was released on bail on 9 August in exchange for a substantial sum of money and several different bail conditions that he was willing to comply with, and is still not released as he is said to be a threat to the public on the charges against him. .
‘He is being mistreated by Canadians. Thomas Nolan is an innocent man.’
Nolan is charged with attempted murder, grievous assault, gunfire, and a dangerous vehicular operation to cause bodily harm.
A spokesperson for the UK Foreign Office told : ‘We support a British man detained in Toronto who is in contact with local authorities.’
